Wordpress is a fantastic way to start blogging and get your self out there in the digital world. It’s nice straightforward setup is easy to use and completely customisable. To install a plugin on your Wordpress blog you will first need to download the plug-in you would like to setup. A huge range of plugins are available at Wordpress.org some good ones to start with are All In One SEO and also Wordpress.com Stats

Once downloaded extract the files using Winzip or a similar program – remembering where you unpack the files to – you will need this later.

From here you will need to upload the files to your own server (This is not as tricky as it sounds!) A simple way is by using Filezilla – A FTP program that is easy to use and FREE! Once Filezilla is installed you will need to login to your server via Filezilla – your access details would have been sent to you when you signed up for your hosting account – if not contact your Web Host and request your FTP access details.

Filezilla will now connect you to your server on the right hand side of the screen and show the files on your computer on the left hand side. You will need to locate where you have unpacked your files on the left hand side by clicking though the folders and in the same way find your wordpress plugins folder – it is within wp-content!

Now highlight the plugin folder that is saved on your computer and double click or drag to upload the folder!

Once the files have been added to your server you will be able to see the new plugin in your Wordpress Admin – Congratulations!

Now you can activate the plugin and set up all the features!
